In the sample package Machinery and plant engineering (portfolio, five projects) four projects are planned with roles only. As shipped, 89 tasks with 22,776 hours are in the conflict list “Unassigned resources” – which only says that nobody has been assigned yet. The example therefore first runs the “Assign staff” wizard over all tasks: it assigns 81 people who are fully available in the task period. What remains open afterwards answers the question.
In the four projects it is 24 tasks with 1,832 hours, led by electrical design with seven tasks and 576 hours: circuit diagrams and safety concept of Packaging cell P-80 and Press R-12 retrofit in November, power electrics and measurement of the E-Drive 400 test bench around the turn of the year. The four electrical design engineers work on the circuit diagram of Assembly line MX-200 at the same time. Mechanical design follows (3 tasks, 400 hours), then mechatronics (3, 296), assembly fitters (3, 240) and purchasing (3, 200). On top come 18 base-load tasks of Service and small orders of one quarter each (12,696 hours), for which nobody is free for the whole quarter. The assignments are one undo step in the session; nothing is saved.
Why it is useful
A missing skill is the cause, a schedule slip the effect. Seeing the open balance per role early allows training, borrowing or postponing before the task starts. A list of tasks shows who is entered – the balance per role shows how many hours nobody carries.How the answer is produced

Limits
A task with a negative balance and a person already assigned appears in both lists; the AI merges it by UUID. The balance applies to the open project, not to the pool as a whole; the shortfall per skill is the view of the capacity view.
